Lauralee gave me yet another fun website to look at:
Crazymomquilts.blogspot.com. They have tons of cool ideas and tutorials. Here is one I found that I just had to do. It was the
Tuna Can Pin Cushion. It was super easy and didn't take hardly any time at all. Here is my finished product.

Not too bad for a first attempt. It looks kind of like a cup cake. I need to dig through my scrap fabric and find some cool stuff and make some more. I was a little worried that the tuna can size might be a little small, but it actually ended up bigger than I thought. You could use a chicken chunks can if you wanted it really big. I also used a twistie tie to hold all my gathers together. It made gluing it into the can a whole lot easier.
Yet another variation, instead of batting you could stuff it with crushed walnut shells (it is actually bird litter you can buy at the pet store). The crushed shells sharpen your needles as you take them in and out. Next time I go shopping I am going to pick me up some and use it. My needles are pretty dull.
I also found this great tutorial on
Square Pin Cushions. Check it out. They are a little more involved but super cute! If you wanted, you could put elastic on the back so you can wear it on your wrist.
