Sweater Recon

My sister and I were watching this video on how to doll up your t-shirts (so cute!) and we got talking about other things we could do to old shirts we don't wear anymore. She told me about an idea a lady in her ward had done. She just cut right up the front of an old sweater, sewed some ribbon on each side and folded it all the way to the inside of the sweater so it couldn't be seen from the front. Then she made some button holes, sewed on some buttons, and had a brand new cardigan. I did basically the same thing but used fabric. My sweater didn't have a whole lot of extra bulk in it so I couldn't fold my flaps all the way back. But I kind of like seeing the fabric. Anyway, here is how it turned out. I am actually quite happy with it. (I have made myself some other items of clothing but haven't dared post them on this blog yet. They need a little tweeking.) A very long time ago I ran across this purse tutorial out of an old sweater that I just loved. I haven't posted a picture because I need to redo my flower on the front. It's a little big. But since I am talking about things to do with sweaters I decided I should post it. It was super easy and so fun. Obviously you could line the bag if you want but you don't have to. For fun flower ideas to put on the front of your purse check out my flower link list on the left of this blog.
And just because you can never have enough sweater tutorials, here is one on how to make leg warmers out of your leftover sweater sleeves. They are kind of like the baby socks featured in the above link, but they don't have a closed toe. So cute. You could even make a pair of pants out of the sleeves like I did with mine. I can't wait to see them on Amy. I think they will keep her very warm this winter.
Ignore the fact that one leg is longer than the other one. It is just the camera angle. :) Now excuse me while I got hunt for more sweaters to cut up!

Great job Melanie! I love the fabric showing too. I like the idea of making legwarmers out of the sleeves too.
