More Pillow Projects

While in Utah, I decided I should help my mother-in-law out with a few sewing projects. They just moved and needed some sprucing up in their new place. Funny how some new pillows can help you feel brand new.

Well, the first project I tackled was her living room. These are actually our couches that they are baby-sitting for us until we have a place big enough for them. They sure look good with some fancy pillows on them. (I also crocheted her that afghan for Christmas one year.)Here is a close up. For the floral one, I just sewed the 3 sides of my pillows together, turned it right side out, and then sewed a 1/2 inch seam around the edges. Then I stuffed my pillow in and sewed up the bottom. So easy! I love how that little flange gives it a finished look. I liked it so much that I had to go home and change a few of my pillows to look like it. :) I used the same technique on the maroon pillows, but used an 1.5" flange. It's a much easier way to make a flanged pillow and besides that, it's reversible!

I also made a few table runners...
a throw pillow for her chair...
and a matching piano seat cushion.
She loves the fabric and now her room is all pulled together. Everything was pretty simple and came together so fast. I also made a fun diagonal pillow for her downstairs couches. The gold ones she already had and the back pillow we found at the DI for $2. Can you believe it? It's some really high quality fabric too. We sure lucked out. There are matching pillows on the other couch.
My last and final project was her bedroom. She has been wanting a new bedspread for awhile now but could never find anything that spoke to her. Well, while we were at the DI we found this great home decor fabric for $1 a yard. And there was 12 yards of it. We couldn't believe it! So we snatched it up. Then we went to Joann's and found some fun coordinating prints. Here is how it all turned out.
I did the bedspread, 2 bedside table runners, the striped pillows, and the front accent pillow. The others were ones she had already. There is enough fabric left over that she will be able to make some nice matching curtains. She loves how it turned out and said she will never get sick of it. I say the same thing sometimes but never mean it. :) It's too much fun to change things up and have something new.
Anyway, those were my Utah projects. It was fun to be able to make some new things for my mother-in-law and even more fun that she was happy with them. Now maybe the redecorating bug will be eased for awhile...maybe. :)
