Texture Book

I ran across this really fun tutorial and knew I just had to make one. It was for a texture words book for your kids. Here is how mine turned out.
And these are all the pages I have inside. I was amazed at how many different textured things I had around the house. The only thing I had to buy for this project was some glue and the binding. But that was it. I ended up using some cardstock I had at home for the pages instead of the watercolor book. I couldn't find the book binding glue (besides, it sounds expensive) so I just used craft bond rubber cement which worked great (and it was cheap). I didn't even need the binder clips to hold the pages together. It was a really fun little project.

It was so much fun that I had to make another one. For this one I made the pages smaller (1/4 sheet) and cut out shapes instead of all squares on one side, and attached it to a colored back. Now Amy can learn her colors and shapes too. And here is a shot of all the shape pages.
And the colored side, not that there is much to see but I posted a picture anyway. :)
For yet another variation you could make them flap books by only cutting 3 sides of the square and cutting a small semi circle in the top of the flap. That way your little tykes can pull the flap down and see what is behind it. Maybe animals? Or make a family book and have aunts and uncles, cousins, etc. behind the flaps. Anyway, I really enjoyed this project. It was a nice break from sewing. You should make one of your own.

While I was binding books, I also finished up Amy's Family Quiet Book that I had started awhile ago. The scrapbook binder I wanted to put it in didn't last real long (Amy tore the pages - oops) so I got it laminated (Thanks Amy for sharing your laminater with me!) and bound. Since I got it laminated I had to change a few of the pages, and all my pictures are updated now, but it is much better.
There are tons of other fun book ideas out there. You could make this cute ABC book from Moda Bake Shop, or this really fun pieced Soft Color Book, or use some of these quiet book templates to make your own book. And if you are in the mood to buy a pattern, there are some of the cutest quiet book patterns on You Can Make This.com. I love the Monster Album, Buggy for You, and Under the Sea. The Shoe Book is also pretty cute. I think Amy is going to have quiet a few quiet books when all is said and done. Good thing she LOVES books!
