Flannel Boards

Awhile ago I ran across the coolest etsy site: Copycrafts. They have the cutest quiet books that I have ever seen! However, my sister showed me that they have now added play mats, flannel boards, and flannel board print offs to their list. Uh oh! And since I was looking for something else to do (NOT!) I just had to make them. And I love how they turned out. Here are my flannel boards. They come in a jumbo size and a travel size. And here they are all opened up. I really love how the big one folds up. Makes for much easier storage.
The coolest part about these patterns is that they introduced me to the neatest find ever. Photo transfer paper. (This link is to Joann's but they have some at Michaels for $10 for 10. Which you can get even cheaper with a 40% off coupon.) This stuff is so cool. You can print any image off the web onto this paper and then once the ink dries, you can iron it onto fabric. In this case, felt. Easy huh.

My sister ran across this website with tons of free printable paper doll patterns. And there are a million of them! As soon as I get a minute I am going to look through them and print one off for Amy. You could also print off scripture story pictures for FHE lessons. Another idea of mine was to print off a picture of each family member in the shape of a leaf. Then make a giant tree to put on your flannel board. Then the kids would have to put the leaves up where they go and put the families together. I'm sure you could turn that into an FHE lesson on geneology easy enough. Anyway, that is one of my latest projects. And Amy really does enjoy playing with it. This is a great activity for your kids because if they get bored with this, just print off a new set for them to play with. Easy peasy.
And just in case you were wondering, here is how I store all my pieces. I just put some tape (masking or painters) along both sides of one edge of a ziploc bag. That way when I punch the holes in them it doesn't rip. Then I just hook them all together with loose leaf binder rings. I also wrote on the front which set it was and how many pieces.
This is great because I can add as many as I want and they are all in one place. This method of storage was inspired by my mom who did this with our barbie clothes and accessories. Thanks Mom! Anyway, I hope you liked my latest project. I am trying to finish up a bunch of them so I don't feel so crazy so hopefully there will be more posts soon.

How fun is that. I like the print paper idea. It makes it that much easier. Very cool!
