Project of the Month - Fabric Beach Balls

In honor of Saint Patrick's Day, this month I thought it would be fun to "go green!" The only rule for this project is that you cannot purchase anything to make it. We are going to make fabric beach balls! Now hopefully the weather will stay warm enough long enough for us to go outside and play with them.So how exactly are we "going green?" For the fabric you will have to use your fabric scraps, an old shirt, cut up a spare pillow case, or whatever else you can come up with. If you don't have stuffing lying around you can use fabric scraps, beans, rice, cut up socks, crumpled up grocery sacks, etc. Anyway, I think you get the idea. So be creative! I'm excited to see what you come up with. An idea for the little kids is that you can make a small ball and put ribbons in the seams for them to suck on. You can click here for the tutorial.

Here's a fun variation (thanks Amber!). You can put a button hole in the circle at the top of the ball, then insert a ballon. When you want to play with them, blow up the ballon, tie off, and stuff the end inside the button hole. Then when you are done playing with them they can be deflated and stored away somewhere. This way they are very compact for traveling or even to just shove in your diaper bag. It takes up less space but is still way fun. I might have to cheat and buy some balloons. I don't have any at home. :)

Don't forget to tell me what you used on your project when you send me an email with the picture of your "green" beach ball.
