Kids Room Part 3: Furniture Remodels

Between rainstorms this last week, I was able to attack Amy's dresser and turn it into what I always imagined it to look like. I finally finished it up today. And good thing too, we are supposed to get rain again tomorrow. Bummer. :( Here is the before which most of you have already seen, but I had to post it for documentation sake.

For 3 years I have hated the molding and finally decided to do something about it. Lucky for me it wasn't glued on so I was able to pry it off with a little bit of effort. It took a lot of puddy, sanding, priming, more sanding, painting, waxing, etc. but I think the end result turned out pretty good. All the little flaws just add character. :) Here is the after:

Now it can take it's rightful home front and center in their room and not be banished to the closet. I am going to make a new brown table runner to match the other ones in their room and then try and figure out what to put on the top of it. I am thinking of making some cute stuffed animals from Melly and Me. Amy has already picked out her favorite, and I think it's super cute. She also picked this one out for baby brother. :) So unless I change my mind and think of something else, that is the plan for now.

On another note, we are planning on putting Amy in a twin bed once the baby comes. We got a twin bedframe from Kelli (thanks so much!) and set it up in her room. I told Amy we had a surprise for her and showed her the new bed. She loved it and has called it her "surprise bed" ever since. Every time we go to Morgantown she wants to sleep in it. That is a little impossible because we don't have the mattress yet, but that is coming soon.

The headboard had some spindles on it and I thought it needed a little dressing up. Sorry no before picture. I accidentally deleted it and I didn't really feel like taking off the new headboard just to get a picture. Sorry. Anyway, here is the after.

I actually used some cardboard I had and wrapped it with some fleece blankets to give it some substance. Then I wrapped around some fabric and stapled it all together. I tied it on the spindles in the back so that I could take it off if I ever wanted to. I thought a nice comfy headboard would be good for when we read stories. Also, since her bedding is going to be white, it was a good way to add some color. I still have to make the bedspread and stuff for it, but at least you can see the headboard part. Obviously I will post more pictures when I get the rest of it done. Sometime in April I'm sure. I want to have it finished up before we move back so that Amy can finally sleep in it. And those are the furniture remodels for the kids room.
