My Current Work in Progress

So I am taking a break from sewing and trying to tackle some of my painting projects. Nothing is done yet, but I thought I would post about what I was working on anyway. Hopefully you don't mind. :)

First off is this mirror. So nice and girly and pink. I rolled all those roses and glued them on. Devin didn't think it was the greatest idea and after I go it done, I have to admit that he was right. It is super cute, but not very gender neutral. Next time I might try this technique on something smaller like a $1 frame from Michaels that could just be thrown away if styles changed.
I am planning on hanging this above the crib and obviously it is too girlie for our little man. So I ripped off all the flowers and was left with a lovely mess of hot glue. Yuck! I did some research online about how to get it off and tried everything. Finally I figured out how to do it. I took my hair dryer and heated up a little section until it was tacky. Then I used a flat head screw driver and scrapped it off. Worked like a charm. It took awhile but I got it done. Now it just needs a new paint job and it'll be good to go. Yeah!

My next project is the one I am most excited about. I have wanted a long dresser for our bedroom for quite some time now but haven't found one yet. Well, while doing laundry out here in Pittsburgh, I spied this beauty out of the corner of my eye.
I called the landlord and he said it was junk and that I could have it. Imagine that, he called a 9-drawer solid wood Broyhill dresser junk! I know it doesn't look like much now, but with a little sanding and some paint it's going to be beautiful. I am going to drill all new holes for the knobs because they look a little funny where they are placed right now. Amy has been helping me paint them. She is so proud of her work and always asks me to take a picture of her with her knob. Such a cutie. Excuse her sad looking eyes, she is a bit under the weather.
And the next project on my list is Amy's dresser. It was another free find and started out an ugly forest green. Before Amy was born we painted it up all nice and it looked like this.
Well, I have never been in love with that molding and I finally decided to do something about it. Being cooped up in the house so much has given me lots of time to think up new projects. :) So I grabbed my hammer and metal spatula (yes this was the most important tool) and got to work. Amy grabbed her tiny spatula and wire wisk (her hammer) and pounded away right along with me. Moments later it looked like this.
Can I just tell you how happy that picture makes me. No more molding! I just bought some new knobs today (online of course) and as soon as I can get our sander and some paint from Morgantown this dresser is in for a new transformation. I'm so excited for it. It'll finally look like how I always wanted it to. Now that I am fixing it though, I am no longer going to hide it in their closet. So that means I am going to have to decorate the top. I am terrible at decorating the tops of dressers. Any brilliant ideas out there of what I could do?

Anyway, those are my current painting and restoration projects. Nothing is done yet. But hopefully if things go well I can get the mirror and Amy's dresser done in a week or so. We are in the middle of a snow storm today but the weather is supposed to clear up so I should be able to get some painting done next week. And there you have it. I hope you enjoyed looking at my work in progress. I can't wait to get these things all done. It's going to be so fun!

That is so sad you had to tear off the roses. I loved the way you decorated everything so girly. That's too bad you have to change everything to be gender neutral. Is that because you have 2 bedrooms and not 3? I'm sure though whatever you do will look splendid. I loved that 9 drawer dresser. It'll look so good. I don't buy dressers anymore. All the nice ones are way too expensive and the cheap ones are fake wood junk. We got an old dresser for Wyatt's room that we redid. So nice for free stuff! Good luck in your endeavors!
