To make these flower clips you will need some 3/8” ribbon (about 4.5-5” for each clip), flowers, something for the center of the flower, a hot glue gun, and metal prong clips. These flower clips can be used on headbands or directly in your child’s hair when they get older.

I got these clips at Sally’s Beauty Supply but you could probably get them at any beauty supply store. Before you buy them, open the box and make sure you are getting the right ones. There are tons of different kinds of clips so just double check before buying them.

You can use any kind of flower. You can buy them at Michael’s, Wal-Mart, pull them off a wreath or flower arrangement, etc. Whatever would be totally fine.

When you get the flowers, totally dismantle them. Pull them all apart so there is no more plastic between the layers. This way the flowers will lay better. It also gives you more layers so that you can make more than one bow out of each flower. You can even use different colored layers for each flower clip if you wanted. You can use all the layers if that is what you would like.

Put some hot glue on the end of your ribbon.

Place the ribbon glue side up inside the clip. So you are going to open the clip, put the ribbon inside, and then close the clip over the glue.

Now put glue on the entire top side of the clip.

Fold the ribbon over the glue and press down tightly to secure.

Now put glue on the top part of the back side of the clip. Make sure you don’t get any on the prongs at the bottom, only on the top part.

Now fold the ribbon back around to the back and press down tightly on the glue to secure.

Cut off the excess ribbon.

Now you are done covering your alligator clip.
*The reason why you cover the alligator clip with ribbon is because the ribbon helps the clip stay in your child’s hair. The bottom prongs are not covered so that they are easier to slide into the hair or on the headband. This combo of the top prongs covered and the bottom ones not covered help the clip stay in place the best. You could cover the bottom prongs if you wanted to but you don’t need to. You can use whatever color of ribbon you would like. It can match the flower or not.
Now on to assembling your flower clip. You will need the covered clip, some flower pieces, and something for the center of your flower.

Put some glue in the center of the top side of the alligator clip. Put your first flower layer down and press in place.

Now glue the remaining layers on.

Glue your center piece in the middle of the flower.

Here is a backside view of the flower.

Now clip to your headband and you are done.

For some other variations you could use a brad for the center. They have some way cute decorative ones at Michael’s. In this case you would place the brad through the center of the flower pieces and then glue the whole thing onto your flower clip.

You could even use beads. These you can glue or sew onto your flower. You could either sew it onto the top layer only or through all the layers at once and then glue on.

Another option is buttons. Once again you can glue or sew these on, same as the beads.

And there you have it, your flower clip tutorial.
